  1. I think different objects or people will have unique energy fields which will interact with the water in different ways.

    That makes sense.

  2. Y’all should see my son now. I did some cornrows in his hair and now he looks like a mini Sean Paul. Too cute. Just dreading the day he will start breaking hearts.

  3. Froggie,

    Alee-Bellee? Lol.

“Its more about what people think about the political process and bureaucracy than politics itself.”

It’s still not quite up my alley. But thank you so much for thinking about me. 🙂

    “Enjoy some Steven Colbert humour!”

    What…is this? Ha.

  4. Nkosazana,

“Alee, wouldn’t it be awesome if Froggie was friends with Vanilla Ice.”

    Haha, not really?

“Y’all should see my son now. I did some cornrows in his hair and now he looks like a mini Sean Paul.”

Oooh, how cute! You should send a picture to my email. Sean Paul is an interesting looking one! Now all you have to do is teach him “Gimme the Light”.

Remember when Christelyn put that curly black wig on her youngest? Babies with random clothes and hair = sooo cute.

  5. Twins are at their grandparents to Wednesday. Maybe then. I’m too hungover to mess with technology right now.

I think I do remember. I really do like her video with Emmas birthday! Let’s see if I can find it.

    Here it is!

Now Alee, wouldn’t it be awesome if Froggie came up with Vanilla Ice in the mustang from his old music video and thats my boy, when he meets your parents!

If things get awkward Vanilla Ice can come in and say ‘Now stop, collaborate and listen.’

I don’t know why I’m giggling like a crazy person at every Adam Sandler movie I see. Seriously I see that Happy Madison logo at the start and I start giggling. Seriously in that clip when he puts in his ‘save my son’ mix tape has me in stitches for some reason.

Did you know Vanilla Ice renovates houses? I did not know that.

  6. Actually, it is interesting that you’re talking about my friend Robert. He and I are close personal friends. You should know that Robert likes to Iceovate house not renovate. He feels that it is cool that he is still relevant in peoples lives.

  7. Emma! 🙂

    Nkosazana, I’ll be waiting….

Froggie, you mean who wants to go with you? Living on Mars would mess up my great hairdos.

  8. Nah, you don’t have to worry about that. Mars has a very light atmosphere.

  9. Nkosazana,

“Some how I do think that boy is white.”

Probably is. I went to college with several people from that part of Chicago…9/10 were white.

But that story — what in the…Such a mess, on so many levels.

“I tell you nothing good comes out of Chicago. Kanye West and horny little boys.”

And Dwyane Wade. Ugh. You know you’re going to be annoying when your first name is a typo.

“Oh dear lord. Yes YES YES! Alee, on your wedding you should play this one. No not should. You HAVE to play it!”

That sounds like something Froggie would request to play. *feigns annoyance*

  10. To be honest, I wouldn’t say that song is very applicable to me.

Also, I don’t believe teenage boys typically hire prostitutes. I think they employ the internets for such things. You’re much more likely to find a wad of tissues in teenage boys room than a woman of the streets.

Also, this situation sounds a little like that Tom Cruise movie from the 80s.

  11. Alee, I think the biggest crime here is her hair. Who the heck is Dwyane Wade?

Froggie, sure it is. I can totally see that. You’re either that or a hipster with an ironic beard.

Well who knows that teenage boys does. God darn it now I’ve got to start worrying about that when that time comes. Stupid legal brothels 20-30 min from our house. But I doubt they let in a under-age boy though. 14 year old boys with lots of disposable income.. Not a good combination.

  12. Oh yeah husband is looking at motorcycles. He wants one for the nice weather we having. Never mind we’re going to South Africa in like a week. Perhaps rent one down there? I mean it would be kinda cool riding down the garden coast. But then I got to get myself one of those skin tight sluty biker chick outfits. Ok that is going to look odd in SA.

  13. Froggie,

“To be honest, I wouldn’t say that song is very applicable to me.”

I just thought you’d request it to be funny.

“Also, I don’t believe teenage boys typically hire prostitutes. I think they employ the internets for such things.”

Lol, but if you read the article it says that they hooked up via the internet.

  14. Nkosazana,

“Alee, I think the biggest crime here is her hair.”

LOL. You may be right about that.

“Who the heck is Dwyane Wade?”

    NBA player:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwyane_Wade

    He’s also Gabrielle Union’s boyfriend:

“Froggie, sure it is. I can totally see that. You’re either that or a hipster with an ironic beard.”

    LMAO. He’s more like “humanitarian”.

But out of those two I’d go with hipster, definitely. 🙂

  15. Alee, I’m speaking about pornographic materials, not hiring prostitutes via the internet. If you’re going to go that route at least keep to tradition and hire one off of a street corner.

  16. Nko, I may be white, but I am surely not any sort of six legged flying insect.

  17. So it’s settle. Froggie is a fedora wearing ironic beard having hipster!
It’s good alee! At least you’re not dating the football team any longer 😀

I don’t get basketball. And why is Gabriel union dating beneath herself for that negro.

  18. Basketball is the thinking mans sport. <— Ironic hipster comment… But seriously it is. Actually, team sports are many times more complex than individual sports like tennis and golf.

  19. Most American sports are commerical events with no soul. I don’t really think basketball is pariculary complex given that Dennis Rodman and Lebron plays the game. I doubt as well that there are many PhDs between the players.

  20. This is hilarious Alee, I pretty much only read what about our daughters because I have so little time. But now people are accusing Gina over there for being a CIA operative to make black men look bad.

  21. “So it’s settle. Froggie is a fedora wearing ironic beard having hipster!”

Ha, I wish. Well, not the fedora part.

“It’s good alee! At least you’re not dating the football team any longer :D”

Nothing wrong with the football team. Go Tigers! 😛

“why is Gabriel union dating beneath herself for that negro.”

I would’ve thought she’d date someone else, but who knows? I don’t much about her personality so maybe they fit well together. She snapped at this woman on Twitter for implying that Dwyane was cheating on her.

  22. Froggie,

“Actually, team sports are many times more complex than individual sports like tennis and golf.”

Why is that? Tennis seems somewhat complex. Tennis players I’ve known have been pretty smart (in the traditional way) as well.

    Nkosazana,

“Most American sports are commerical events with no soul.”

    So not true… 😦

“I don’t really think basketball is pariculary complex given that Dennis Rodman and Lebron plays the game. I doubt as well that there are many PhDs between the players.”

Basketball requires a different set of skills. You don’t have to be book smart but you do have to think quickly, cleverly, and have a strategic mindset.

“now people are accusing Gina over there for being a CIA operative to make black men look bad.”

I thought she was easier on them than other bloggers. At the very least she seems more rational; it’s just the facts with her.

“Oh yeah Genarlow Wilson is becoming a cop”

Never heard of him until now. But I didn’t know you could be a police officer with a background like that.

  23. Oh Alee do you really think little things like facts and numbers are going to change the defenders of black men. Now I’m not american so I can only go on what the media and blogs tells me. When the black (man) civil rights industrial complex started defending the gang rapists in floria, nothing supprises me.

You should read up that fellow it makes you never wanna let out your daughters.

  24. My theory is that complexity of sport increases exponentially by the number of players in the playing area at one time.

  25. Happier news Cyril Karabus has been released finally thanks to SA pushing UEA into releasing him. So many people greeted him at the airport.

  26. Who’s Gabrielle Union dating?. She’s a cutie pie and not a bad actress too.
Most, if not all “ballers” are dumb. It grosses me out that women would want to have sex with, farless marry these….species. Really don’t understand the attraction.
The only sport I truly like that includes a ball is tennis. I could stand to watch football when Germany’s playing, as they have a finesse about them that’s beautiful to watch, not like the greasy Spanish or Italians Spiel. Still dislike seeing the adulation women pay to them, as their IQ is ways below par and their contribution to our world can be likened to when a woman’s going through PMS, and goes shopping for the momentarily high.

  27. Foosrock,

She’s with one of those species! They’ve been together for awhile now.

I understand the attraction — fame and money. Those are great motivators. A lot of men are dumb, so why not get a dumb man who is rich and famous? 😛

Also, some are hot. It’s really that simple.

  28. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Alee!. She isn’t!!!. Oh bother, there goes my perception of her. Oh well!.

Agree about the species. Dumb, rich and hot. What more can a woman want?. Oh wait, OLD would be even better, no?.

In all seriousness, women and men who do this deserve each other.

  29. Why would you say such a thing in respect to D-Wade?!

Granted that it is possible that he may underwhelm as an intellectual, I don’t believe you have the evidence to support such a claim. Even if he was never an academic superstar that could be more related to being from a community that is underserved in academics and not because of a lacking in natural intelligence.

Also, there are a few instances of athletes who not only excel in their chosen sport, but also in the academic world.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/rhodes-scholar-myron-rolle-moved-past-nfl-medical-153506485–nfl.html

  30. Froggie, who in blazes is D-Wade?. Is that a person?

Also, aren’t scholarships given to the best altheletes to the best colleges/universities?. Then why should their education be subpar?. It’s THEM (and partly the greedy system that encourages below par notes to keep a Jock). If they weren’t so dumb in the first place, they would take advantage of BOTH opportunities.

    Nice porn. LOL!.

  31. Not always. Athletes typically have to meet a certain academic admission standard. If this standard is not met the athlete won’t be at that university. There are many cases of some truly talented players who are never able to play their sport on the collegiate level because they do not meet these academic standards.
I was referring to the quality of their primary and secondary education being quite poor.
Often times an athlete won’t attain high levels of academic achievement because there just isn’t enough time in a life to hone both the mind and body to such high levels.

  32. foosrock,

D-Wade = Dwyane Wade = NBA player from Chicago = Gabrielle Union’s boyfriend.

Hearing about Gabrielle dating him didn’t change my perception of her much because I suspected that was her type. What did change it was reading her internet fight with this other woman about him cheating…I can’t think too much of someone who has Twitter wars with people using incorrect English.

  33. Froggie, touche.

Lol @ Nkosazana, love the pic! 🙂

Froggie doesn’t dress like that though. Looks like how guys in the DC/MD/NoVa area dress, like my brother, minus all of the accessories except the glasses.

P.S. I’m surprised more people aren’t replying to my first book post, considering how many previously requested that I do book reviews!

  34. Yes. I think it is important to have a full understanding of your ancestry. Also, that ideas like race and ethnicity aren’t really real. By that I mean they don’t exist in a physical sense. They only exist as an idea. Same with culture to an extent.

  35. “Also, that ideas like race and ethnicity aren’t really real.”

The article you posted seems to conflict with the idea that ethnicity isn’t real…

  36. I was only posting it because she is just as Italian as I am, which I thought was interesting. I wasn’t supporting said opinion concerning race or ethnicity being real. These are only created by people and are rather fleeting in nature.

  37. @Froggie,

It doesn’t say she’s Italian, and even if she were she’d still be more Italian than you 😛

    Mira,

“But to be honest, I am not totally excited about it because it’s a remake of a critically acclaimed German movie and I just hate when Hollywood – even the indie authors like this one – remake European projects.”

Oh, it’s a Euro remake? I was thinking it sounded too cool for Hollywood, ha.

There is the impression that Hollywood remaking a movie deems it “worthy” but for the films that aren’t adapted by them I just think of them as hidden treasures.

  38. First, wordpress is a BITCH!. Yours and Nko’s sites are the only ones I have major problems to leave a comment!!!. It’s getting to be extremely annoying. What am I doing wrong, for pete’s sake???.
Secondly, I like when Hollywood do remakes of originals. For me this is not detracting at all as I’m a fan of big, bigger, biggest. Although I love indie and quirky movies, the Americans are not good at such. That’s more a European niche.

  39. I couldn’t continue on the last post. WordPress didn’t allow me. Ok, forgot what I wanted to write. Man, technology is going to be the death of me!. Annoyed!

  40. Yes, it’s a remake of a German movie Vincent will Meer:
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1611211/

I am not crazy about the remakes, tbh, but I am glad that the director/screenwriter (who is a white woman) cast POC actors. I mean, 2/3 of the cast is POC while they were all white in the original. And Robert Sheehan is “dark white” so there are no WASPs in this one. I wonder if this was intentional.

But I still give it a side eye because it’s a remake (and not even a remake of an old European movie – this one was out in 2010). I also don’t like that the female character has anorexia. I mean, it’s not the remake’s fault, it was like that in the original: the main character has Tourette’s, the other guy (Dev Patel here) has OCD and the girl has anorexia. Still… it seems like a cliche. If they’re making a remake they might as well switch it up a bit (if it’s not important) and have the girl have OCD and the guy anorexia.

But I am looking forward to this project. Robert Sheehan has some good upcoming projects, like Anita B, but also some shitty ones, like the Mortal Instruments, so I kind of want him to have more varied American projects. (The problem is that he sucks when it comes to accents so I have no idea how this will go 😦 ).

  41. @foosrock,

What issues are you having? WordPress can act weird with some browsers, but it works well for me if I’m on my usual Firefox.

If you want to continue a comment/make a new paragraph, press the “Enter” key and the “Leave a Reply” box will get bigger to accomodate the text.

  42. Mira,

“If they’re making a remake they might as well switch it up a bit (if it’s not important) and have the girl have OCD and the guy anorexia.”

An anorexic guy…now that would be original.

“The problem is that he sucks when it comes to accents so I have no idea how this will go”

Ha, he needs to enlist Froggie’s help: he is great with accents.

Well, at least he’ll still look good. 😛

  43. I am pretty good with accents. I think I shall open up an accent school. Fee is 100,000 euros per session and it is non-refundable.

    Foosrock,
Dark white? I just call those people non-white Caucasian.

  44. Froggie, I think you meant to direct that comment to Mira.

I wouldn’t consider Irish people to be non-white…

Oh and LMAO at “dark white makes them sound like poultry meat.”

  45. Irish people are white, true, but many of them, along with many Southern and South-East Europeans (people from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, the Balkans) are darker than your usual WASPs. So I guess I refer to them as “dark white” (poultry or not). Heck, I (and people in my country) even consider most Latinos as dark white.

Also, the thing with Robert Sheehan is that he’s often considered mixed. People can’t decide if he’s mixed with black, Latino or Middle Eastern, but many have a hard time believing he is 100% white.

This is him as a child (center):

There is actually a black girl very active in his fandom who claims he looks like her mixed cousins and she even asked his brother on Twitter about their ethnicity, to which he replied with “we are Irish” (which… was a correct answer; I guess he didn’t realize she was asking about race).

    Alee,

An anorexic guy…now that would be original.

I know, right? I mean, I respect the director for changing the characters’ race, so why not change this? But perhaps is integral to the plot?

Ha, he needs to enlist Froggie’s help: he is great with accents.

Maybe I can write to Robert’s agent and suggest Froggie’s services! I doubt Robert can afford him, though. lol

Well, at least he’ll still look good.

Ah, you know me. If they keep his curls, he is good to go in my book. 😀

  46. Mira,

“Also, the thing with Robert Sheehan is that he’s often considered mixed.”

In the 1st and 3rd pictures he definitely looks like he could be part black. For sure. Especially the child picture. But usually not. He has some similarities to mixed people but generally I can tell he’s white.

    Froggie,

    “Anyone interested in macroeconomics?”

    Nope! 😀

“That fella as a kid kind of looks like my brother as a kid.”

    …No.

None of your brothers. Since when do they look mixed?…Heck, even the kid in front of him looks more like your brother than Robert. Lol.

  47. In the 1st and 3rd pictures he definitely looks like he could be part black. For sure. Especially the child picture. But usually not. He has some similarities to mixed people but generally I can tell he’s white.

I think people with his phenotype and facial features can look very different based on some things like hairstyle, etc. He does look much different with all those curls and hair growing up than he looks with short, straightened hair. Also, you can’t see his eyes are green on all the pics so I guess those were you can see it make him look whiter.

For example, I think he looks totally white in Irish TV show Love/Hate (an amazing show, btw, about the Irish gang land, if you can find it anywhere, watch it, guys, it’s really good):

But when his hair is all curly and longish, and when he’s more tanned, he looks more ambiguous, imo.

    http://nathanyounging.tumblr.com/post/54092374927

The thing is, and to be completely blunt, he doesn’t look like your typical WASP guy, which would make him difficult to build a Hollywood career. I mean, in UK and Ireland they have white people play his parents and he is cast in roles of “default” (read: white) characters. I kind of have a feeling he wouldn’t be treated like this in Hollywood. In one upcoming American movie, he plays a Jewish character and they straightened his hair even though the character in the book had curly hair. I know Jews are white, but I think it signals he’s seen as “ethnic” in a way.

I am curious as to who will play his parents in the Dev Patel/Zoe movie.

    “Anyone interested in macroeconomics?”

    Nope!

    Oh, snap!

  48. “For example, I think he looks totally white in Irish TV show Love/Hate”

I think he looks mixed there!

“But when his hair is all curly and longish, and when he’s more tanned, he looks more ambiguous, imo.

    http://hollywoodcrush.mtv.com//wp-content/uploads/hc/2012/07/Robert.jpg

And I think he looks white here! 🙂

Seriously, looks like any old Jewish guy. I could totally see why they’d have him play a Jewish character.

I wasn’t even looking at his eye color, but green eyes are somewhat common on mixed people of the sort of phenotype he has in the kid picture (e.g. Leona Lewis) or black people (Tyra Banks) so I might have thought he looked more mixed because of them. It’s my completely anecdotal scientific experience (lol) that green or hazel eyes, light tan-deep tan complexion, and dusty brown hair tend to appear together on mixed and black people.

  49. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, Froggie!. Now I see why Alee says you’re an “idealist”. Yup, makes sense to me….

  50. ^Froggie’s busy now but he says “Thanks! :)”

(P.S. Why does it make sense to you?)

Sorry I’ve been so lax with new posts (this has been my refrain all year, huh?)…Next post tomorrow afternoon.

  51. Yes, he’s a Cancer water baby… are Cancers supposed to be idealists? You know that’s us Pisces. 🙂

  52. Happy birthday, Froggie! (I still don’t know you enough to add “May the hair on your toes never fall out!” but you get the idea). 😀

    Alee,

Robert Sheehan’s green eyes are well known (and respected) in the fandom, right after his gorgeous hair! 😉

Here’s a pic from L/H with Ruth Negga (Their characters have a true luv):

Interesting observation about green and hazel eyes with mixed people.

  53. Yes, he’s a Cancer water baby… are Cancers supposed to be idealists? You know that’s us Pisces

The ones I’ve known (including one of my sisters) were/are extremely so. Didn’t find that though about pieces, more so about scorpions. Have major issues with all 3 signs generally. We just don’t seem to get on and apparently we should!.parently

  54. It’s my completely anecdotal scientific experience (lol) that green or hazel eyes, light tan-deep tan complexion, and dusty brown hair tend to appear together on mixed and black people.

My son falls in the category of light tan, kinky ginger hair and hazel eyes.

  55. Mira,

“Happy birthday, Froggie! (I still don’t know you enough to add “May the hair on your toes never fall out!” but you get the idea). 😀 “

Froggie says “Thank you all! 🙂 ”

What does “May the hair…” mean?

“Robert Sheehan’s green eyes are well known (and respected) in the fandom, right after his gorgeous hair!”

His eyebrows are interesting. They give him a very expressive face.

“Here’s a pic from L/H with Ruth Negga (Their characters have a true luv):”

Her hair is better than his in this pic!

    —-

    foosrock,

“The ones I’ve known (including one of my sisters) were/are extremely so.”

Yes, my dad is a Cancer as well and he’s pretty idealistic. But I attributed that to other factors.

“Didn’t find that though about pieces, more so about scorpions. Have major issues with all 3 signs generally. We just don’t seem to get on and apparently we should!.parently”

You got issues with us? (Me and Froggie) 😦

    …Just kidding.

What is your Sun sign? I thought it was Aquarius for some reason.

  56. What is your Sun sign? I thought it was Aquarius for some reason.

    And you would be right.

I actually have no issues with any water sign, but they seem to purposely go out of their way to put me down. Seems I come across as a know it all

  57. What does “May the hair…” mean?

That’s from the Hobbit. They have hairy feet. So to say “may the hair on your toes never fall out” is a Hobbit way to say “I wish you all the best”. (My Tolkien geek is showing :D)

His eyebrows are interesting. They give him a very expressive face.

Oh, lol, true! He’s not on the Colin Farrell level, but his eyebrows are thick. I kind of like them, though; they are not bushy or ugly. I hope he’ll never be forced to pluck them.

Her hair is better than his in this pic!

It’s because his gorgeous curls were relaxed for the show. Apparently, having curly hair is not macho/gangland enough. 😦

  58. “So to say “may the hair on your toes never fall out” is a Hobbit way to say “I wish you all the best”. (My Tolkien geek is showing 😀 )”

    Oh, LMAO.

“He’s not on the Colin Farrell level, but his eyebrows are thick. I kind of like them, though; they are not bushy or ugly.”

Yes, they’re bushy but not ridiculously so like Farrell’s…

“It’s because his gorgeous curls were relaxed for the show. Apparently, having curly hair is not macho/gangland enough.”

Relaxed as in permanently straightened? Or just flatironed/blowdried?

I noticed Justin Timberlake started straightening his hair…lol. I like his curly hair much better. It makes him stand out.

  59. Technically, Farrell’s aren’t bushy either. They are just huge and weirdly shaped and, well, huge. I think “bushy” to me is when they are unruly, wild, possibly unibrows.

Relaxed as in permanently straightened? Or just flatironed/blowdried?

I believe it was chemically straightened but I might be mistaken here. There are 3 seasons of this show and his hair got shorter and worse as the show progressed. But perhaps it was just cut really short and blowdired? (I doubt, though, because there are some interviews during that time and he appeared with straight hair).

I know he used to straighten his hair as a teen. No idea why. It made him look really weird in some of his early roles:

No wonder everybody lost their mind (and knickers) for him when he appeared in Misfits with his gorgeous curls:

Justin “Trousersnake”? I don’t really find him hot but I Googled the new hairstyle and he definitely looked better with curly hair.

  60. “I know he used to straighten his hair as a teen. No idea why. It made him look really weird in some of his early roles:”

Hmmm, not the best look for him, especially how long it is.

“No wonder everybody lost their mind (and knickers) for him when he appeared in Misfits with his gorgeous curls:”

    Haha, totally drool-worthy. 😉

“Justin “Trousersnake”? I don’t really find him hot but I Googled the new hairstyle and he definitely looked better with curly hair.”

I don’t find him hot either but I like some of his songs (like “Mirrors”, no matter who thinks it’s an ode to himself!) and his hair was always a nice touch.

  61. Going to see Blur tomorrow. It’s going to be an all nighter. My girlfriend and I want to be back in ZH to enjoy (or recover from) the festival.
Have an interview today and am sooooo nervous as the guy’s Scottish and so freaking cute. Hope I don’t fumble. Although, it might not be such a good
    idea to work under him……hmmmmmm…..”under him”….now there’s an idea……

  62. foosrock,

    Have fun!

“it might not be such a good idea to work under him……hmmmmmm…..”under him”….now there’s an idea…”

Lol, sounds like something Froggie would say. Get your minds out of the gutter!

“here’s Blur incase anyone wants to know how awesome they are”

Good thinking. I was just going to look them up.

That background reminds me of the living room wallpaper that was in my home as a child. They’re not bad…@ 1:05 looks like a cross between Robert Sheehan and Mick Jagger. Lol.

  63. Alee, can’t see your avatar.

Am still recovering. Was major fun though. Young men are so aggressive with pursuing one. We felt soooo overwhelmed.

  64. Foosrock,

I changed my avatar; the new one has a black background, so it’s supposed to be a little dark…but it’s just J. Cole in front of the Earth with the words “Cole World” below.

  65. Anyone know anything about Dominicans? All I really know is that black americans really like their light skinned women. Husbands brother is getting married to one.

  66. Froggie, I first thought: Yuck!, when he presented the ingredients. Took me a while to realised this is all meant in a humourous way. Or is it?.

Nko, Dominicans are “special”. The women are very feminine, girly and typical South American more interested in outward appearance and tend not to work on their inner qualities to balance it out. This is garthered from those I’ve worked with and know outside the work place…

  67. Oh and I’m assuming you meant from Dominican Republic?. As Dominicans can also be referencing people from another island in the Caribbean called Dominica (ex Brit colony)…..

  68. Yes.. Dominican Republic. Apparently they took a big liking to each other and in a month time they are getting married. Not entirely sure what to think of her. She seems very nice and friendly. I think she might be a treat though to my queen bee status of the family. I think she do have some claws to her.

  69. At least I’ve tasted dominican food now and her cooking and food does not beat mine by a long shot. Dominican food is boring.

  70. You should send her a link to the cooking show I posted. You would never have to worry about her cooking talent surpassing yours.

  71. Ooooooo, Nko, are we having complexes?. You know, one should never compete consiously or unconsiously. It only leads to jealousy and then hate. Welcome her as another sister into the family, be supportive and show guidance. Trust, she’ll be eating out of your hands. BUT, if you compete, her claws will show and Latinas are some sneaky feminine fighters. Besides, there’s room on that “throne” for more “Queens”, no!?.

  72. Nkosazana..Oh, what a surprise to see you here!

“Anyone know anything about Dominicans? All I really know is that black americans really like their light skinned women. Husbands brother is getting married to one.”

…Wait, is this the brother you were supposed to be saving for me? *mad*

I know plenty about Dominicans; there are lots of them (and Puerto Ricans) in my hometown so I grew up around them. My hairdresser was Dominican, lol.

But they’re not light. I mean, some are, but most of them are more of a medium complexion; Zoe Saldana and Sammy Sosa are Dominican, for example. A lot of them look a lot like black Americans. Puerto Ricans tend to be lighter. Their food is good but I wouldn’t eat a lot if you’re trying to stay slim!

  73. I’d disagree there with the complexions, Alee. Most are mixtures, Zoe Saldana is not the norm from my observation. Never been there though. Puerto Ricans are more like JLo, without the straightened hair.
Oh and the food is flatulence inducing….

  74. ………I’d also say most black Americans are milk chocolate complected.

So, that’s the most I’ve EVER written/said re: complection where black people are concerned, as it’s such an extremely fucking IGNORANT complex we’re still carrying around and it annoys the fuck out of me to constantly read about it on blogs. end of rant

  75. Na, Alee.. Dominican food is nothing special I have tried lots of it from two cooks now.. It is decent everyday food I guess though. She’s light skinned with a hit of brown.

  76. Kind of funny, yesterday they were both over for dinner and brother in law was joking that he will play dominos all day when they get a house in dominican republic. She took it seriously and said she divorce him if he becomes like a creeping dominican man. Her words.

  77. Actually it was ‘a creeping dominican man who spends all his time with his friends and other women and non on his family’. Sounds a lot like african men.

  78. foosrock,

“I’d disagree there with the complexions, Alee. Most are mixtures, Zoe Saldana is not the norm from my observation”

I’d say she is, from the ones I’ve seen. There are plenty of lighter ones, don’t get me wrong. But I wouldn’t call them light overall; they’re usually in that middle range (what would be medium brown or medium-light brown in black American parlance). It’s the large African and Native ancestry. You can Google pictures.

Puerto Ricans I’d say are light, but less white-looking than Jennifer Lopez. But Jennifer Lopez was less white-looking pre-Hollywood, so yeah.

“…I’d also say most black Americans are milk chocolate complected.”

Ha, yes, like the Crayola color. I call it solid brown.

“I’m honey ghost complected. Its two parts pale ghost white and one part honey amber.”

Bwahaha. I don’t think you’re that pale, so I actually agree with the one part honey. 🙂

  79. Nkosazana,

I guess it’s okay you didn’t save him. I’ll just deal with my boring, cliche American men. *sigh*

I like their food. But I like Caribbean foods since there were lots of Caribbean immigrants in my hometown, so I may be biased.

So he’s actually going to move to the DR to live with her or was that a joke too?

  80. oh no they say that they will buy a winter house in Dominican republic some place called Samaná and spend summers in Sweden. You do not make much money in Dominican republic and gringos apparently have no chance there because the government has a bias against them apparently.

  81. “gringos apparently have no chance there because the government has a bias against them apparently.”

Hmmm, interesting. Never heard of this before.

  82. A lot of Germans/Swiss emigrate/retire to DR and though things do run differently there, re: infrastructure, reliability, bribing, basically all the issues third world countries pose, they seem to prosper. I think it requires adjustment and where your priorities lie. I’m also thinking of early retirement, someplace like Australia though or really deep Northern Europe, but that’s based solely on the type of men I like being around 😉 and standard of living. I’m sooo spoilt. Although I currently live in the suburbs far enough away from urbanised ZH, the thing is, Switzerland runs like a clock and I’ve gotten sooo used to that, it would be a major adjustment for me to move (back) to the Caribbean or America, unless it’s some quaint town in Washington state or far far up North on the coast. I believe in stability of government, infrastructure, reliability of what one pays for, respect for country (no garbage on streets), safety(sometimes I party till 5am and then trek home for 2hrs without ever being bothered) and gorgeous men. No wonder it’s hard for me to consider leaving Switzerland!!!.

  83. True there’s a lot of whining about everything on expat forums.. But I always check them to get a feel for the countries. Most of the foreigners there seems to bring their money from outside. I know that a whole community of Germans on the north coast are moving out since the police robbed them of 1.5 million euros and bought new jeeps for that. As well as foreign own businesses getting raided by the police. Which is strange since they are pretty much the only ones who pay taxes.

One weird thing I learn thought is that you are responsible if someone hits your car no matter what happened. You go to jail for at least a night or more for being a gringo.

Seems like DR is only good if you got a steady income coming in from abroad. Do not count on a job. Most Dominicans do not want foreigners except for tourists seems to be the general consensus.

  84. Sounds right third worldly, Nko!. I think one fares better in the ex English colonies though. They’re more civilised, democratic and ways less violent. The DR men (and some women) as well as Nigerians run the hard drug dealing here. Black English expats (IT) are constantly
ID checked. They cry racism. I ask: “How can the police tell if you’re Nigerian without checking your ID?”.
Was watching Aljazeera some days ago about an exile Zimbawean family (daughter lives in South Africa and parents in England). The daughter visited the family’s home to see what has become of it. Her father was once a Manager for one of the largest farms owned by whites before the Mugabe government took these farms away and gave them to his family, friends. That was so very sad to see what has become of a once prospering nation. The bread basket of Africa. The neglect of these farms was so heart wrenching as the daughter had photos of how they used to look. The entitlement (and lazy/inept) mentality ruined that economy. Now people are starving, it’s more unsafe, and Mugabe still sits on a throne.

  85. Personally, I find Americans should travel within their own country because, besides money (which I respect has an importance) I don’t see what positives they bring to outside nations. I mean, they can’t even speak a second language!!!. As well, it would be better if we could go back to the times when the American “culture” wasn’t so exported and therefore making it so dominant the world over, and European culture was what everyone aspired to integrate into their lives.

  86. foosrock,

    “A lot of Germans/Swiss emigrate/retire to DR”

    Why is that?

“I’m also thinking of early retirement, someplace like Australia though or really deep Northern Europe”

    Meh. Australians.

“(sometimes I party till 5am and then trek home for 2hrs without ever being bothered) “

Wow, that’s cool. I probably still wouldn’t do it though. You just never know…

    Nkosazana,

“Most Dominicans do not want foreigners except for tourists seems to be the general consensus.”

And people with money?…Every country loves people with money, lol.

    Froggie,

“Maybe someone will get a kick out of this.

    http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2012/07/08/opinion/sunday/the-strip.html

It’s kind of funny. But a little cliche.

  87. Eh. honestly I think the worlds just the same as it has always been, only different.

    Froggie, isn’t that an oxymoron?.

  88. A thought: My ex was an Alpha male, although he “looked” like a nerd. I can only surmise his family background (monied family) as well as his huge (imo) appendage and how to use it made him rather popular with the lassies, hence why he’s such a confident male in ANY situation. So here lies my observation/question. I just read(please excuse this gossip. I normally don’t seek it) that one of the founders of google at 40yrs old, cheated on his wife(two very young children) with a 27yr old. My first thought was: “But, he’s a nerd/geek, they’re loyal/faithful”. Then I took into account his age, gender, and fame/money and came to this conclusion: Nerds/Geeks(males) are no different than ANY man who has money/fame at his disposal. They simply equal DOGS!.

PS: MY alpha male(ex husband) didn’t cheat on me. He FOUGHT for our marriage. I was the “bitch!”.

PSS: Those nerds/geeks (Beta) males show their true colours when money/power is involved. They are no different than alpha males. Don’t fall for it, ladies.

  89. Time has told me you’re a rare rare find,
A troubled cure for a troubled mind.
And time has told me not to ask for more,
One day our ocean will find its shore.

  90. Not sure if any ladies here are into Incubus and or/ Brandon Boyd but I thought I might share this video. This is from his second solo album. The video is sure… inspiring. 😀 Enjoy! (I know I did).

  91. The video is strange… On one hand, it’s sexy (despite his skinny legs, but it’s not like anyone payed attention to that) but it’s also a bit awkward. Mainly because of that strange milky substance.

But he’s known for not being able to keep his shirt on in videos. This one keeps on giving:

  92. Well, he’s 6’2″, long legs (skinny legs?), ok abs (not too muscular)… what’s not to like? He looks a bit too old for his age these days, but he was really hot circa 2001 or so. You couldn’t make him keep his shirt on (not that anyone was complaining).

  93. He doesn’t look terrible, awful now but I agree he’s seen better days…

That first picture…can’t be looking at things like that. Lol.
